About the museum
The civic association Železničné múzeum Stará Turá has been rescuing and restoring railway exhibits and documents in its free time since 2006. Its members also saved one of the station buildings from demolition, and at their initiative Železnice Slovenskej republiky (Railways of the Slovak Republic) restored it to its original appearance. The museum was ceremonially opened in the station on 30 September 2017.
The first exhibition is the traffic office in the former waiting room, equipped with objects used by staff in the 1920s and 1930s. In the station storeroom are the restoration workshop and the office of the museum's head. The rarest exhibit is a wall-mounted telephone from 1909, which survives as a museum exhibition in Slovakia only in Stará Turá.
