About the museum

Along the Logatec–Ajdovščina road, inside the archaeological park in Hrušica, lies the late antique fortress Ad Pirum, part of the extensive defensive system of fortresses and barrier walls of the Claustra Alpium Iuliarum, which protected Italy and the city of Rome against invasions from the east during the turbulent late antique period.

In the inn Stara pošta in Hrušica a small museum room with an exhibition has been set up, where visitors can learn more about the site and the defensive system. The permanent exhibition Poznoantična trdnjava Ad Pirum (The Late Antique Fortress Ad Pirum) has been on display since 1 December 2013. Independent visits to the park are possible at any time; for groups, guided tours are possible from April to October by prior arrangement.

The park is run by the Narodni muzej Slovenije; visits to the park and the museum room are free. An observation tower and a virtual walk are available, and nearby are the fortresses at Lanišče, Ajdovščina and Vrhnika.
