About the museum
The Notranjski muzej Postojna is a public institute which protects movable cultural and natural heritage from the municipalities of Cerknica, Bloke, Logatec, Loška dolina, Postojna and Pivka. It has archaeological, biological, ethnological, historical and pedagogical-andragogical departments, as well as a conservation-restoration workshop.
The permanent exhibition Muzej krasa (Karst Museum) extends over two floors and basement rooms at Kolodvorska cesta 3. On the first floor it shows the formation of karst, made possible by water-soluble rocks; on the second floor karst caves are presented as refuges of Ice Age animals, dwelling places of our ancestors and inspiration for modern caving, with the Predjamski zaklad (Predjama Treasure) occupying a special place. In the basement there has been a new interactive exhibition on caves since 2025.
The museum also runs other exhibition spaces in the region, including an outdoor display depot and a lapidarium (built in September 2025), the Ozbič Barber and Hairdresser's Salon, the Kraigher Room and the Polhar Collection, and the Planina historical trail.
