About the museum
The Etnografski muzej v Davči opened in 2007 with funds from the European Union. Local residents founded it to preserve the old customs, traditions and tools connected with flax processing, since many Davča residents once worked with flax and wove linen. The museum operates in the premises of the Jemc farmstead in the centre of the dispersed village.
The main exhibition shows the entire path of flax from the plant to linen. On display are a great variety of tools, looms and flax-breaking tools (trlice), on which visitors can try how hard this work was. The permanent exhibition Družine skozi čas v Davči presents the life of farming families; the museum also displays old photographs of villagers, farms, hayracks (kozolci), animals and carts, mostly from the time before the First and Second World Wars.
Workshops are available for the youngest, in which they make products from linen. The annual event Dan teric, held on the third weekend of August, is also connected with the tradition of flax growing.
