About the museum
The Galerija Kambič (Kambič Gallery) operates in the birthplace of the academician Vinko Kambič, born in 1920 in Metlika. Kambič was an ear, nose and throat doctor, and in his free time a great connoisseur and collector of works by Slovenian painters and of cultural-historical objects. Together with the prima donna Vilma Bukovec he donated his collection to the Belokranjski muzej (Bela Krajina Museum).
The donation comprises 230 objects, among them 83 works of art by 23 authors. The collection includes paintings and sculptures from the Baroque to contemporary artists, a rich collection of reverse glass paintings, carved objects, furniture, clocks, tableware, icons and church furnishings. The collection received the Valvasor Award for 2021.
The Belokranjski muzej took over the management of the gallery in 2001. Besides the permanent exhibition Ljubiteljev zaklad (Amateur’s Treasure), it also hosts temporary exhibitions.
