About the museum

The Liznjekova domačija (Liznjek Farmstead) in Kranjska Gora was built in the second half of the 17th century and shows features of peasant Baroque from the 18th and early 19th centuries. Its spatial layout was among the most advanced architectures in Slovenia, and today it is regarded as the prototype of the authentic Slovenian alpine house. A large farm building dated 1781 belongs to the farmstead. The house is decorated with paintings on the façade, a semicircular stone portal and a wooden gallery.

On the walled ground floor are the black kitchen, the entrance hall, the storerooms and the living room, as well as a room with a wooden ceiling and a carved rosette. Rich furnishings from the 19th century, painted chests typical of the Gornjesavska dolina (Upper Sava Valley), wall cabinets, clocks, beds, cradles, tableware, tools and clothing show the home and life of a well-off peasant family. Tools are displayed in the attic, and the farm building holds a collection of farm carts and implements.

The farmstead is run by the Gornjesavski muzej Jesenice as the Muzej Kranjska Gora (Kranjska Gora Museum). Besides the ethnological presentation, it houses a permanent exhibition on the life and work of the children's writer Josip Vandot, author of the books about Kekec, and the exhibition Kranjskogorsko bajčno izročilo (Kranjska Gora Folk-Tale Tradition).
