About the museum
Pocarjeva domačija in Zgornja Radovna is one of the oldest preserved farmsteads in the Triglav National Park and a cultural monument of national importance. According to tradition, the Radovna valley was at first only used for the high pastures of the Gorjani farmers, and permanent settlement followed only later. In the feudal period there were six farms in Zgornja Radovna, among them Pr’ Pocar. The oldest document relating to the property dates from 1609; the 1672 document is the first to record the name Potzer, and the year 1775 is carved into a ceiling beam of the house.
The farmstead forms a compact cluster with the residential house, the farm building, a small cowshed for small livestock, a wooden pigsty, a cart shed and a cistern for rainwater. Its exterior has remained almost unchanged to this day. Besides farming, the former owners also earned money from charcoal burning and carting.
When the farmstead was no longer inhabited, it was renovated and arranged as a museum, so that it now presents the life and work and the building heritage of past centuries. A rich collection of household equipment, furniture, tools, vessels and clothing is on display. The Triglav National Park received the Europa Nostra diploma for the renovation of the farmstead in 2006. An information point as well as an exhibition and event space are part of the farmstead.
