About the museum
The Fala hydroelectric power plant is the oldest hydroelectric plant on the Drava and the oldest large Slovenian hydroelectric plant still in operation. After renovation it runs with three units as one of the most modern plants in the country, without staff, and produces about 260 GWh of electricity a year. Over its entire history up to its centenary it has generated 19,400 GWh, roughly one and a half years of Slovenia's current electricity consumption.
On the power station grounds, an impressive space of the original machine hall with the preserved horizontal Francis turbine has been set up for visitors. The museum is run by the company Dravske elektrarne Maribor.
The museum displays various exhibits: the DC generators (auxiliary and main exciters), the synchronous generator, the turbine governor with its pressure device, the structure and operation of a Kaplan vertical water turbine, the control room (switchgear), the Gall-chain sluice gates in the flow field, the gantry crane and the turbine intake.
