About the museum
The Vojaški muzej Slovenske vojske was founded in 2004. It is a research and exhibition institution that collects, restores, studies and presents objects related to the military and wider social history of Slovenian territory. It also devotes particular attention to the historical circumstances and everyday life of Slovenes in foreign armies.
The museum is one of the units of the Center vojaških šol (Centre of Military Schools) and shares the Kadetnica building in Maribor with them. The school was built in 1856 by the Austrian emperor specifically for military education; in 2004 it was returned to its original purpose. The museum's holdings are divided into 15 basic collections, including firearms, uniforms and equipment, armoured vehicles and artillery, aviation and anti-aircraft defence, naval material, archival documents and maps, decorations, photographic and video material, and military art.
