About the museum
The origins of the Muzej slovenske policije (Slovenian Police Museum) go back to 1920, when, after the First World War, material on criminal offences on Slovenian territory began to be collected. From 1970 the collection was housed at the police secondary school in Tacen. After the Policijska akademija (Police Academy) was founded, the collection was closed for a time due to lack of space. In December 2006 it received space at the Academy and became accessible to visitors again.
In Tacen, the criminal investigation department is on display, presenting criminal offences. It includes collections on homicide and sexual offences, the Sprava action, property offences, illegal border crossings, economic crime, illegal drugs and the enforcement of criminal sanctions. A second department, a collection on the Ten-Day War for Slovenia, presents the development of the security system.
In December 2025 the museum also opened the permanent exhibition Od orožnika do policista (From Gendarme to Police Officer) in the premises of the Bela galerija on Kotnikova ulica in Ljubljana. It presents uniforms, personal items, means of transport, photographs and the stories of uniformed guardians of order in Slovenia; much of the exhibits belong to a private collector.
