About the museum
In 2010, on the initiative of the Občina Bovec (Municipality of Bovec), the Tolminski muzej designed the exhibition Zgodbe Stergulčeve hiše (Stories of the Stergulc House), set up in the Stergulc House. It focuses on the Stergulc family, especially on Andrej Stergulc (1927–2002), an amateur researcher of local history, collector and the first mayor of the independent municipality of Bovec (1995–1996).
In 2018 the exhibition was supplemented and partly reshaped; it now presents the stories that Bovec has written in different periods. An archaeological part has been added, showing the archaeological picture of Bovec with finds from the Bronze Age onwards: the hillfort on Ravelnik, the cemetery in Srpenica and the Roman settlements on Ravelnik and by the church of Device Marije in Polje.
The house is the social centre in the heart of Bovec, with two conference halls and a bar; the museum is on the ground floor.
