About the museum
The Ribiška hiša (Fishing House) stands in the village of Kal-Koritnica near Bovec, on the site of an old dairy. It is a meeting place for villagers, events and training, and an interpretation centre for fishing in the Upper Soča Valley. Its purpose is to support educational programmes about nature, to raise awareness among residents and visitors, and to train guides for guided tours along the theme trails by the Soča river.
On the ground floor is an interactive exhibition on fly fishing, one of the most popular forms of sport fishing and the only permitted method of fishing in the upper course of the Soča. Eight film clips show fly fishing on the river, and in a small pool visitors catch artificial fish, which represent the native species Soča trout and grayling.
The Fishing Trail to the Breka pool begins and ends at the house; it presents the conservation of native fish species, Soča trout and fly fishing.
