About the museum
The Partizanska tiskarna Slovenija (Partisan Printing Works of Slovenia) is among the most authentically preserved monuments of the Second World War in Slovenia. It operated as one of 38 secret partisan printing works. The complex consists of six wooden barracks beside a stream in the hard-to-reach V studencih gorge: an electric power station, sanitary facilities, a barrack with a bedroom, the machine room, a bookbindery and a kitchen with a dining room. The printing works began operation on 17 September 1944, and until 1 May 1945 it printed the Partizanski dnevnik, the only daily printed newspaper of any resistance movement in Europe.
In less than a year they printed 228 issues of ten different newspapers, in print runs of over a million copies, as well as brochures, leaflets and posters. The printing works is fully preserved and has been open to visitors as a cultural and historical monument since 1947; both printing presses still work. With the help of the caretaker, visitors can print a commemorative leaflet.
