Temporarily closed (expected until 2028-01). The memorial house is temporarily closed for renovation; reopening is planned for January 2028.

About the museum

In Vinica on the Kolpa, the birthplace of the poet and translator Oton Župančič, a memorial house is run by the Belokranjski muzej Metlika. The house presents the life and work of one of the most important Slovenian poets, as well as the history of Vinica and its surroundings.

The permanent display is divided into several thematic sections: Župančič's children's poetry and Bela krajina, his salon, and his life and work. Part of the exhibition is devoted to the history of Vinica, from the Stone Age through the Iron Age Japodes and the Roman period to the Middle Ages. In four rooms on the first floor, distinguished people from Bela krajina are presented: writers, scientists, artists, musicians, actors and people from Vinica.

Due to renovation, the house is temporarily closed. It is expected to reopen in January 2028, when 150 years will have passed since the poet's birth.
