About the museum
Tonina hiša is an ethnological monument with preserved features of Istrian rural architecture. It belonged to the well-off Gorela family and is named after Antonija Gorela, married Bažec (1873–1967), who was the last owner and lived in the house until 1961.
On the ground floor a reconstructed oil mill with a grinding mill, a press, a spindle press and a furnace with a boiler stands, of the kind widespread in Istria in past centuries and in the first half of the 20th century. On the first floor are the kužina (kitchen) and the kamara (room), with the original open roof truss of oak timber. The furnished living quarters show how people lived in the 19th and first half of the 20th century.
The collection is a detached unit of the Pomorski muzej “Sergej Mašera” Piran.
