Antiquarium

Underground archaeological museum beneath the Setas de Sevilla, with Roman houses and mosaics visible from raised walkways.

Opening hoursAdmission €2

About the museum

The remains of the Antiquarium appeared by chance during excavations for an underground car park in the Plaza de la Encarnación. Instead of halting the works, it was decided to conserve the site and integrate it into the Metropol Parasol project, the Setas de Sevilla, for which the original design had to be modified. The museum opened in 2011.

The space, of more than 4,500 m², is one of the largest visitable archaeological sites in Seville and brings together more than two thousand years of history, from Roman houses of the 1st century to Islamic remains of the 12th century. The route runs along raised walkways from which visitors can see houses with mosaics, streets, baths with underfloor heating and an Almohad house.

Highlights

  • Roman houses with mosaics, including the one of the Loves of Neptune
  • Roman baths with underfloor heating
  • 12th-century Almohad house
  • Raised walkways over more than 4,500 m² of excavations

Permanent exhibition

  • Yacimiento arqueológico de la Plaza de la Encarnación – Roman and Islamic remains preserved beneath the Metropol Parasol: houses with mosaics, streets, baths and an Almohad house, which are visited along raised walkways.
