About the museum
The Aula de la Naturaleza in San Antolín, in the municipality (concejo) of Ibias, has mainly an educational purpose. Schools and environmental groups make use of it, but it is also open to the general public.
The centre has a permanent exhibition on Ibias. Through objects, stories and workshops, visitors learn what life was like in the Asturian villages of the area centuries ago.
In the adjoining building is La Palloza, a structure inherited from the castro (Iron Age hillfort) buildings and related to the mountain huts of the Somiedo brañas (summer pastures). It recreates traditional dwellings with a circular or oval plan, with rubble-stone walls and a roof of rye straw, and shows how the ancestors lived.
