About the museum
The Museo Etnográfico y de Historia de Grau/Grado was founded in 1982 and holds an important collection of around two thousand pieces, spread across three venues. The main venue, Villa ya Mercáu, is in the Palacio de Fontela in the historic centre, next to the tourist office. It presents the market, history, industry, commercial tradition and bourgeois life of the town, and shows two private collections: that of historic cameras by Corsino Fernández and that of accordions by Felipe Rubial.
The second venue, the Llagar de Sidra (cider house), occupies part of the Palacio de Miranda Valdecarzana, also in the historic centre. The third venue, in the La Cardosa industrial estate on the outskirts of town near the railway station, houses the Traditional Culture collections, covering rural life, the culture of bread, farm implements and trades such as the goxeiro and madreñeiro (clog maker), and the Civil War collection, with original pieces, models and replicas.
