Domus

Interactive science museum devoted to the human being, in a building by Arata Isozaki facing the sea, with more than 150 modules and a science cinema.

Opening hoursAdmission €2

About the museum

The Domus, formerly known as the Casa del Hombre, opened on 7 April 1995 and presents itself as the first interactive museum in the world devoted entirely to the human being. It is the second of the three Museos Científicos Coruñeses, the municipal service that also includes the Casa das Ciencias and the Aquarium Finisterrae. Its content was devised by Ramón Núñez Centella, who directed it until 2008, and its motto is “Conócete a ti mismo” (“know thyself”).

The building, on the seafront, is the work of the Japanese architect Arata Isozaki together with César Portela. It is built of granite, and its seaward façade curves like a sail and is clad in thousands of pieces of Galician slate.

The museum brings together more than 150 interactive modules on the human species. Its exhibitions include “Bocados”, on food and the Sustainable Development Goals; “Xogo de neuronas”, on the brain; one on genetics; and another on human evolution, produced with researchers from Atapuerca. The MiniDomus is designed for children up to 6 years old, and the Leonardo da Vinci cinema screens science films on an 80 m² screen.
