About the museum

The clock collection of A Coruña Town Council is on the first floor of the Palacio Municipal, the building on María Pita Square designed by the municipal architect Pedro Mariño in 1904. On that noble floor are the mayor's office, the plenary hall and the municipal collections, which include an art gallery, a collection of pre-philatelic postal marks and the clocks.

The collection arose from the donation to the Council by the collector Antonio Ríos Mosquera, made up of 82 pieces from England, Germany, the Netherlands, France and Spain. It has grown over time and covers clocks from the 18th to the 20th century of several types: table clocks, wall clocks, longcase clocks and small cased clocks.

Among the highlights is a clock linked to Xavier Méndez de Saavedra, parish priest of Ladrido, and a work by Julien Royal, clockmaker to Louis XV. Visits took place on weekday afternoons and had to be arranged in advance. The venue also closes on days of official events in the Palacio Municipal.
