About the museum

The house traces its origins to the mid-13th century, as shown by its corbels and heraldic shields with a lion, a castle, fleurs-de-lis and the tau cross. The present house is a 15th-century foundation of the Chirino Narváez family, descendants of converted Jews, and it preserves four octagonal Gothic-Mudéjar columns from the 14th century that belonged to an earlier building. The Inquisition questioned the family's conversion, had the emblems on the façade removed and confiscated their property.

Its Renaissance patio is the most striking part: beneath the layers of lime wash a Star of David appeared. The museum brings together the collection formed by the owner, Francisco Castro, with pieces from Arab, Jewish and Christian cultures: bridal chests, polychrome ceilings, Renaissance doors, wrought-iron pieces and ceramics from Granada, Triana and Úbeda. The ethnographic collection is displayed in the cellar.

The house is one of three private house-museums whose guided visits have been run since 2012 by the company Vandelvira Turismo, together with the Casa Solar de los Granadas Venegas and the Casa Sinagoga de Salomón.
