About the museum
The Baeza Museum occupies a former 16th-century noble house of which only the Renaissance doorway survives. The building was the first seat of the University of Baeza: Saint John of Ávila founded there the colleges of letters under the patronage of the Holy Trinity, which in 1542 became a university. It was used for teaching until 1814 and afterwards became a tenement house.
At the end of the 20th century the town council rehabilitated part of the building for housing and assigned the rest as the seat of the museum. Its aim is to give value to local history through the conservation, study and display of objects from all periods that explain the development of the town.
The two rooms on the ground floor show pieces from the successive periods of occupation of the site: Bronze Age ceramics and grave goods, Roman containers and tableware, domestic and decorative objects from the Almohad and Christian periods, and items from the early modern period such as doors, keys and portraits.
