About the museum
The museum was born beside the Tito family's pottery, on Calle Valencia in Úbeda, a traditional street of potters in the San Millán district. It brings together the work of three generations of one family who have worked with clay: from everyday pieces to decorative and artistic ceramics. The Consejería de Cultura of the Junta de Andalucía recognised the workshop as a museum in 2007 under the name “Museo de Alfarería Paco Tito. Memoria de lo Cotidiano”, and since 2014 the pottery has also been a Punto de Interés Artesanal de Andalucía (Andalusian craft interest point).
The route is spread over three floors and twelve rooms of a large old house. It traces how Úbeda pottery developed from domestic objects, such as oil jugs, cooking pots or botijos (clay water jars), to decorative pieces, sculptures and large-format works. In the basement is the workshop, with one of the few kilns of Arab tradition still working in Spain, so that visitors can see how clay is worked.
Among the best-known pieces are the large plates and the vases in the Alhambra style, as well as the collection of figures of Don Quixote and other scenes inspired by the work of Cervantes. Greens, browns and blacks, typical of traditional Úbeda ceramics, predominate.
