About the museum
The Centro de Interpretación Olivar y Aceite is promoted by the Asociación Olivar y Aceite Provincia de Jaén, a non-profit association with more than 80 members from the public and private sectors, including olive mills, restaurants and tourism companies. Its aim is to spread the culture of olive oil, train professionals and bring the province's flagship product closer to visitors and local people.
It is housed in the Casa de la Tercia, a distinctive building at the edge of the monumental area of Úbeda, a city declared a World Heritage Site in 2003, where tradition and new technologies coexist.
The route passes through several rooms with audiovisual and interactive panels explaining the history of the olive grove, the ways oil is made, olive varieties, gastronomy, the uses of oil and its health benefits. Besides the museum, the centre organises tasting workshops, oleotourism activities, cookery workshops and training courses.
