About the museum
The museum occupies the beach chalet in La Malvarrosa that the Valencian novelist Vicente Blasco Ibáñez had built in 1902 as a quiet refuge by the Mediterranean in which to write. The house, rebuilt later, is today a small municipal museum devoted to his life and work.
The façade retains its original appearance, with a gallery of columns and caryatids. On the first floor, the permanent exhibition recreates the rooms in which he lived and wrote, with original furniture and family portraits. Personal objects are displayed, such as the chair from which he gazed at the sea, his glasses and his inkwell, as well as letters and notes.
The second floor houses a research centre with biographical documentation, manuscripts and a large library with editions of his works in several languages. The building also has an assembly hall, and a Mediterranean garden surrounds the house. The museum organises talks and screenings based on his novels.
