About the museum
The Museo de Informática of the Universitat Politècnica de València is in the Escola Tècnica Superior d’Enginyeria Informàtica (ETSINF), on the Vera campus, and offers a journey through the last decades of the history of computing. It was officially opened on 11 December 2001 and has expanded its collection through donations from private individuals and from public and private institutions.
Part of its collection was used in 2006 in the exhibition “40 años de Informática” (“40 Years of Computing”). On 13 May 2013 the Conselleria d’Educació, Cultura i Esport recognised it as an official museum of the Valencian Community (resolution published in the DOCV on 28 May 2013), and since 2015 it has been a member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM).
The permanent exhibition is organised into sections such as microcomputing, the history of the personal computer, minicomputers, workstations, large servers, portable computing and scientific computing. The museum also organises temporary exhibitions, lectures and competitions, and offers guided visits and workshops on retro-computing, programming and cryptography.
