About the museum
The Casa Museo de Zacarías González is the home and studio of the Salamanca painter Zacarías González, where he lived and worked for twenty-two years together with his sister. In July 2005 his sister, Basilisa González, donated to the Fundación Caja Duero more than six hundred paintings, nearly two thousand drawings and six illustrated books, together with the house.
The Foundation renovated the building in 2004 to turn it into a museum, with a design by the architect Agustín Ferreira, a former pupil and friend of the painter, who respected the family rooms. The house has exhibition rooms on several floors and keeps personal items of the artist, such as brushes, easel and library.
Zacarías González is one of the most important artists of Salamanca, and his work is held in collections in Spain, France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Japan and Latin America. The museum is run by the Fundación Caja Duero and can be visited by appointment.
