About the museum
The CDAN, part of the Fundación Beulas, opened on 27 January 2006. Its origin lies in the donations of works that the painter José Beulas and his wife, María Sarrate, made to the city of Huesca from 1991 onwards: nearly two hundred pieces, among paintings, sculptures, tapestries and works on paper, together with their estate on the Ayerbe road, which includes a house, a studio and a garden.
For years the search was for a site for a municipal museum of contemporary art, but the planned projects did not succeed until the Fundación Beulas was set up in 2000. The result was the building designed by the architect Rafael Moneo, conceived as an undulating volume that sinks into the ground and blends into the landscape on the outskirts of Huesca, with materials that echo the surroundings.
The centre combines art and nature: it presents contemporary art exhibitions, shows works from the Beulas-Sarrate collection and from its own holdings, and runs research and education programmes through INDOC. Guided tours include a short route around the Beulas estate.
