About the museum
La Finca del Secretario is a Roman site in the Los Boliches district of Fuengirola, very close to the beach. The remains were discovered in 1987 and excavations began in 1991. The complex was a villa with an industrial character, occupied between the 1st and 5th centuries, with a fish-salting factory, pottery kilns and a thermal complex that reached its greatest splendour between the 2nd and 3rd centuries.
A sculpture known as the Venus de Fuengirola was found at the site, a headless marble figure that was restored in 1988. The site is visited along walkways and paths with explanatory panels, and allows visitors to see the baths with their rooms, pools and hypocaust, as well as a courtyard with a portico and a mosaic.
The interpretation centre opened on 19 July 2019. It recreates how Roman baths worked and displays ceramics, wall paintings, a model of the complex and the Venus de Fuengirola, which was shown again, restored, in January 2021 together with fifteen other pieces.
