About the museum

The Museo de la Música de Urueña displays the collection of instruments gathered by the musician Luis Delgado over his career and his travels. According to Wikipedia, it opened in 2002. The building was constructed expressly to house it: a large double-height hall with display cases along the walls and an elevated gallery running around it, reached by a central staircase, so that the pieces can be seen from different heights.

The full collection comprises about 1,700 instruments, of which more than 750 are on display. It comes from four sources: replicas of medieval instruments made by lute makers from the iconography of codices, sculptures and miniatures; instruments acquired on trips abroad for their historical and symbolic value; instruments donated or loaned by people in the world of music; and original pieces from the 18th to the early twentieth century. The exhibition is organised mainly by geographical criteria.

Among the pieces is the work of the organ builder Joaquín Saura, who built instruments based on designs by Leonardo da Vinci. The instruments are used in concerts, lectures and recordings.
