About the museum
The Centro de Interpretación de la Pesca de Adra is next to the tourist office, on the main street of the coastal town. It presents Adra’s long relationship with the sea and with fishing since Antiquity, with examples of Phoenician, Greek and Roman fishing and of the salting factories that made fishing the town’s main economic activity.
The visit begins in a 3D audiovisual projection room. It then goes through the fish market (lonja), the canneries, gastronomy, the traditions and cults of the sea, with original pieces, information panels, display cases and real fishing items. Other sections cover the evolution of rowing and sailing boats and present-day small-scale fishing with the traíña (traditional net fishing). A virtual panel shows how to cook typical dishes such as atascaburras (a potato and salt cod dish).
One room is dedicated to the Virgen del Mar, patroness of Adra’s sailors, and to the Virgen del Carmen, patroness of seafarers.
