About the museum
The Museo de Adra occupies a 19th-century mansion that belonged to the Trell family. Across its floors it traces the history of ancient Abdera, the city of Phoenician origin that settled on the Montecristo hill and remained inhabited in Roman times.
The ground floor hosts temporary exhibitions and a room devoted to the tradition of Spanish and Almerian art, with traditionalist and Orientalist painting and works of the historical avant-garde by Picasso, Alberti, Saura and Castellón. The first floor shows the wetlands of the Albufera de Adra, and the second floor displays archaeological pieces from the Phoenician, Punic and Roman periods from the Montecristo hill. The museum also has a tourist information point and a workshop for school activities.
The town’s ethnographic section is displayed separately, in the Molino del Lugar.
