About the museum
The centre is the gateway to the Ría de Villaviciosa Partial Natural Reserve. It stands on the left bank of the estuary (ría), beside the road to the port of El Puntal, and helps visitors understand the environmental values that led to the protection of this estuary.
Its permanent exhibition presents these values with multimedia content on the dynamics of the tides, an interactive virtual flight over the estuary and panels for children, in which a small plover (chorlitejo) explains why these ecosystems must be conserved. The audiovisual room screens a documentary on the rías (estuaries) of Asturias. A nature guide staffs the centre, advises on the reserve’s activities and, from outside, helps visitors observe birds with binoculars, a telescope and identification guides. The best time to explore the reserve is at low tide.
