About the museum

The Centro de Interpretación de las Ciudades Medievales opened on 17 July 2008 on the Cuesta de Pizarro, above the first walled enclosure of Zamora and next to the remains of the San Pedro gate. The building, of contemporary architecture and designed by the architect Rafael Bérchez, lies between the banks of the Duero and the city.

The exhibition explained how cities were formed in the Middle Ages, their architecture, their social hierarchy and the role of women in medieval life, with special attention to Zamora. On the upper floor, the so-called Mirador Zen offers views of the Duero river and the historic centre.

The centre closed its doors on 13 December 2021 until further notice. In 2026 Zamora's town council tendered virtual reality digital content and immersive video to turn it into an interactive space, as part of the “Zamora, Paisaje Cultural” programme, but it has not published a reopening date.
