About the museum
The site of Los Millares, in Santa Fe de Mondújar, is a benchmark of the European Chalcolithic: it was occupied between 3200 and 2200 BC, and its spatial organisation shows great complexity. It consists of a settlement with several lines of concentric walls, a necropolis of some eighty collective tombs, and thirteen small forts spread on both sides of the Rambla de Huéchar.
The Los Millares Archaeological Enclave, managed by the Junta de Andalucía, comprises the site, a visitor reception centre and an interpretive zone. The visit to the centre and the interpretive zone is separate from the visit to the site, although the two complement each other.
At the reception centre visitors can find out about possible routes and the research carried out, and an audiovisual is screened to help in understanding the site. To the west lies the interpretive zone, with a section of wall with towers and several huts rebuilt at full scale, where the tasks of the period are reproduced; among them are a metalworking workshop and collective tombs. The “Millares Virtual” app explains the remains with augmented reality.
