About the museum

The Centro de Interpretación del Arte Mudéjar de Cuéllar occupies the church of San Martín, a 12th- or 13th-century building declared a National Artistic Monument in 1931 and considered one of the jewels of the Segovian town. It opened in 1997 with the aim of explaining Mudéjar art, understood at once as an artistic style, a building system and a way of life of the Christian, Muslim and Jewish communities who lived side by side within the building itself.

The visit combines sound, light, music and images. The route is narrated by the voice of a character from the period and of his daughter, who guide the visitor through spaces devoted to frontier culture, emigration and resettlement, the basic building materials (water, clay, stone and wood) and the communal use of the church by a community in which at least three cultures lived together. The church preserves one of the most interesting Mudéjar triple apses in Castile and León, decorated with blind brick arcades, and remains of mural painting and polychrome stucco (yeserías).
