About the museum
The Museo de la Piedra de Campaspero is dedicated to the limestone that has been quarried for generations in the village's quarries. It grew out of residents' wish to show the work of stone, an activity that has been the basis of the local economy and tradition. The route runs between two former school buildings and the three courtyards they form.
The guided visit explains the whole process: the geological formation of the stone, extraction techniques, workshop work, carving and finishing, installation and the tools used. In the courtyards are large monoliths showing the main commercial varieties of stone from Castilla y León, a quarry re-created with original materials, limestone blocks and old machinery. Inside, an audiovisual pays tribute to the village's stonemasons.
The museum also has an ethnographic room and a room for temporary exhibitions, and offers carving workshops, quarry visits and an educational unit for schools.
