About the museum
The Museo del Ayer is a privately owned ethnographic museum set up in a farmhouse in Cogeces del Monte. It shows what life in the countryside was like in our grandparents’ time and recreates scenes of agricultural work and the trades of other eras, with a wide collection of farm implements and utensils.
The route is organised into nine rooms: utensils of the museum; the kitchen with its hearth and the bedroom; the spinning room, with sewing machines and a reel-winding machine; the shepherd’s room, with its utensils and animals; the pig-slaughter room; the cobbler’s room; the bakery, with its bread oven; an exhibition of implements and everyday tools; and a snack room decorated with old photographs and a collection of ladles. Among the pieces, a cylindrical threshing board (trillo) stands out.
According to the museum itself, many customs, words and ways of working have fallen out of use, and with them part of the accumulated wisdom of a balanced relationship with nature; the collection seeks to preserve that memory.
