About the museum

The Centro de Interpretación Patrimonial de Almería (CIP) opened on 23 October 2014 in the former Casa del Policía (police house) on the Plaza de la Constitución, after the building had been restored and set up as a museum. It displays elements inherited from the past as well as others drawn from the municipality’s present-day traditions.

The route begins in a reception area with a large model of the city’s most notable buildings, an audiovisual room with a documentary on its history, and interactive elements. The first floor is devoted to Muslim Almería, from the 10th to the 15th century, with a model of the Alcazaba; the second to Christian and contemporary Almería; and the third to present-day Almería.

The building also has a terrace that serves as a large viewpoint, with views of the Alcazaba, the Jairán walls and the Plaza de la Constitución.

Highlights

  • Model of the Alcazaba and account of Muslim Almería
  • Model of the Cathedral of the Encarnación and reproduction of the Pendón
  • Models of the Cable Inglés and information on the underground shelters
  • Room on Carmen de Burgos and the Movimiento indaliano
  • Viewing terrace overlooking the Alcazaba
