About the museum
The Centro de Recepción Historias del Mar is in Puerto de Vega, in the municipality (concejo) of Navia, and is one of the gateways to the Parque Histórico del Navia. It is the starting point of the thematic route “Historias del Mar”, which follows the coast and its links with sailors, whalers and the families who made their living from the sea.
Outside, the building is designed to look like a ship. The exhibition, spread over five thematic spaces, reviews the town’s whaling, fishing and canning history, with material on fishing techniques, the processing of sea products, coastal trade (comercio de cabotaje) and whale hunting. The highlight of the main room is a wooden reproduction of a whale skeleton.
