About the museum
The Los Yesares visitor centre is in the town of Sorbas, on Calle Terraplén, next to the gorge that divides the village, about five minutes from the centre and the town hall. It lies at the edge of the Karst in Yesos de Sorbas Natural Area and belongs to the network of public-use facilities of the Junta de Andalucía.
The exhibition is spread over three interpretation rooms devoted to the terrestrial, underground and river environments of the area. A reconstruction of a cave interior serves as the setting for learning about one of the most important karst landscapes on the Peninsula, and simulations of stalactites, stalagmites and other karst formations show the uniqueness of the underground world. Archaeological remains found in the area explain the customs and way of life of people in prehistory.
A documentary presents the annual cycle of the protected area and its people, and the information space and eco-shop help visitors prepare for their visit. The surroundings, with the Sendero de los Yesares, allow visitors to see on the ground what has been explained in the centre.
