About the museum
La Casa de los Artesanos is a small ethnographic museum in Níjar devoted to the traditional trades and crafts of the village, known for pottery, hand-painted ceramics and jarapas (woven rugs). It was promoted by a residents' association that wanted to preserve the memory of a time when almost everyone knew how to make nearly everything from what the land provided.
The museum occupies a former stable, of the kind found on the ground floors of houses, next to the Casa del Agua. It displays tools of disappearing traditional trades and ethnographic reports filmed by television crews who have visited the village.
