About the museum
The Molino del Cabecico del Aire is one of the few windmills that survive in the province of Almería. It stands at the entrance to Carboneras, next to Avenida Faro Mesa Roldán and near the seafront promenade, within the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park. It is a symbol of the municipality’s agricultural past. After the town council bought it, it was faithfully restored to its original state, with its internal machinery, and it is listed as a Bien de Interés Cultural.
The mill is part of the municipal interpretation centre El Arte de Moler, which explains the history of milling in Carboneras, cereal cultivation and how mills work. A small space commemorates the French writer Dominique Aubier, who lived on the mill’s land. In 2025 a further intervention was completed (timber roof, timber treatment, cleaning and external painting), funded by the Junta de Andalucía with €69,805.
