About the museum

The centre opened in 2015 in the village of Egino, below the Entzia mountains, inside the dairy that makes Eginoko Artzaia cheese. This cheese has the Idiazabal Designation of Origin and is made with milk from Latxa sheep grazing on nearby pastures.

The exhibition combines traditional tools and old photographs with videos and digital presentations. A large mural shows the couple who founded the dairy with their flock; there is also a video of the flock coming down from the mountain, an aerial orthophoto of Entzia with its place names, and a presentation on how shepherds lived a few decades ago. In the surroundings is the cave of Los Gentiles, with prehistoric remains.
