About the museum
The history of Zerain is closely tied to iron, and to understand the village today one must know its mining past. The Aizpitta interpretation centre explains the process of iron extraction in an engaging and educational way, using modern media, and its impact on the landscape, economy, society and culture of the place.
It is located in the heart of the Montaña del Hierro, a monumental complex where iron has been mined since the 11th century across some 150 hectares, now within the Aizkorri-Aratz Natural Park. It is the starting point for discovering the Aizpea mines, one of Zerain's main attractions. The restored Polborina gallery can also be visited.
According to the Turismo de Euskadi listing, the centre has two rooms, a video room and capacity for 35 people. The visit is accompanied by a guide on the outings organised from the tourist office.
