About the museum
CiuFRONT occupies the former church of Santa María la Mayor, one of the oldest buildings in Lorca. The church was abandoned during the Civil War, and its reconstruction began in 2017, making use of much of the original structure from the late 15th century. The project is promoted by the Federación San Clemente.
The museum presents the period when Muslims, Christians and Jews lived side by side on the Iberian Peninsula before the expulsions of 1492, with archaeological finds and immersive exhibitions. It brings together five collections: objects dedicated to the patron saint, San Clemente; silverware with replicas of royal commissions and Berber and Islamic pieces; flags and standards dating from 713 to 1488; 258 garments, including costumes from the San Clemente festivals; and paintings, drawings and designs.
The transformation of the church is not yet finished: according to the Federación San Clemente, in 2025 the works were at 60% and about €500,000 was still needed for the exhibition spaces. Regular visits were planned for November 2026, coinciding with the patron saint’s festivities.
