About the museum
The museum belongs to the Archconfraternity of the Most Holy Christ of the Blood, known as the Paso Encarnado, and is located next to the church of San Cristóbal, the brotherhood's headquarters. It opened on 10 March 2002, blessed by the Bishop of Cartagena, and was renovated in October 2009.
The brotherhood originated at the end of the 16th century, when Franciscan friars organised a Holy Thursday procession. It received the title of archconfraternity in 1734, was re-founded in 1935 and moved its headquarters to San Cristóbal in 1940.
The exhibition brings together embroideries in gold and silk on crimson velvet, including mantles, banners and the mayordomo tunics used in the Procesión del Silencio, Lorca's only strictly religious procession, held on the night of Holy Thursday. On the ground floor there is a large display case with the pieces; the first floor houses the brotherhood's premises and the second floor the embroidery workshop.
