Espai Montseny

About the museum

Espai Montseny is a municipal facility in Viladrau, in the heart of the Montseny Natural Park and Biosphere Reserve. The building previously housed the Centre Cultural Europeu de la Natura, and the current space opened in 2013 as an interpretation centre devoted to the legendary imagery of the mountain.

The visit is designed as a sensory journey. On the ground floor visitors enter an enchanted forest where, according to tradition, the dones d'aigua (water spirits) rise from the pools and mythical beings come to life. Here the story of Joan Serrallonga, the most famous Catalan bandit of the 17th century, who challenged the power of his time, is also brought to life. In the large room on the upper floor, a multimedia display recreates a gathering of the witches of Viladrau, who were persecuted in the 17th century and who unleash storms and end up flying.

As well as the audiovisual projections, the centre works as an information point about Montseny and offers excursions, cultural activities and gastronomic routes to complete a stay in Viladrau.
