Centre d'Interpretació Internacionals a l'Ebre

Interpretation centre in La Fatarella on international participation in the Spanish Civil War and the Battle of the Ebro.

Opening hoursAdmission €2

About the museum

The Centre d’Interpretació Internacionals a l’Ebre in La Fatarella is one of the Battle of the Ebro centres run by COMEBE. It is dedicated to explaining how the participation of other countries influenced the two sides fighting in the battle. The Spanish Civil War is regarded as the first modern military conflict because of its international dimension, and several powers used it to introduce new tactics and test weapons.

The centre’s account is divided into three areas: the rapid internationalisation of the war, the scale of international participation and, finally, the Munich Agreement and the outcome of the conflict. Topics covered include the aid given to Franco, with the German Condor Legion and the Italian Volunteer Corps, as well as Portuguese, Irish and Moroccan soldiers.

The aid given to the Republicans is also explained, notably the alliance with the Soviet Union and shipments from Mexico, the Non-Intervention Pact promoted by Great Britain, and international solidarity, with thousands of men and women from other countries who took part in defending the Republic or helping combatants and the civilian population.
