About the museum

Flix was one of the first towns in Catalonia to be bombed from the air during the Civil War. Its strategic position and the industrial complex where chloratite, a chemical explosive, was manufactured made it a target for aircraft on several occasions. The first bombing took place on 23 February 1937 and killed eight people. Following that attack, several air-raid shelters were built in the town.

The shelter on Carrer de Sant Josep is the best preserved of those in the municipality, and for that reason it has been turned into a museum space. It also has an exit to Plaça de la Música and is part of the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia. Inside, objects, plans and audiovisuals explain how Flix experienced the conflict and the memory of the bombings; the walk through the tunnel is also a striking experience for children.

The visit lasts about 45 minutes and is conducted with a guide from the Asociación Cultural La Cana, which also organises other tours of Flix's historical heritage. It must be booked in advance.
